*UPDATE: rescue is in progress, though we still need a few more rescuers to join the team. (We are about 15 families, making this happen.) Please consider joining our group rescue effort!
I’m proposing the collective rescue of a young chestnut pony mare in extremely poor condition who ships to slaughter next week. Logistics are in place, we just need a group of people to Donate any amount monthly, for a one-year commitment. If we can get to $1,000 per month, we can do this. Let’s transform a life together!
This is time-sensitive, as she (#062) is extremely malnourished and has bronchitis and a damaged eye. She is a chestnut pony mare with a white blaze, 7 or 8 years old, 13.0-13.2 hands tall. Her condition is very poor. I moved forward and paid bail so as to get her started on antibiotics, dewormed, and begin her 30-day quarantine.
The goal is to rehabilitate and train her such that she can be adopted out to a loving forever home. Collective members will have first option. I will donate professional rehabilitation and training along with weekly video updates and full financial transparency. Transportation, reduced board, training facilities, and services are lined up. What remains is to get together and cover her bail, transport, and vet care for the first year of her transformation.
Logistics are all lined up:
- A private farm has offered board for $400 a month.
- A professional equestrian facility across the street from the boarding farm has offered open access.
- Silver Thistle Transportation company has offered to ship her (after she quarantines) at a very reasonable rate. She is located five hours away at NY Last Chance Bail-Out, the same place that Potato came from, which gives one week reprieves to slaughter-bound / kill buyer-owned horses.
Cost Estimates / Fundraising Breakdown:
- $500 bail
- $500 transportation
- $400 per month board totaling $4,800. One month quarantine board is the same rate.
- $6,000 annual budget for vet care, dental, farrier, etc.
- $0 Daily rehab and training work, and training facilities.
- $0 Weekly progress videos/engagement, and transparent financial reporting
Please note that Pony Up Rescue is not a non-profit; It is a grassroots organization dedicated to rescuing one horse at a time. 100% of funds go towards rescuing and rehabilitating, with full financial transparency.
For a look at current progress on November 2022's rescue of Sweet Potato (who also came through NY Last Chance Bail Out), here are a few photos. He is currently recuperating from crowdfunded cataract surgery that restored vision to his blind left eye.
